<head>Commentary</head>
<p>For this type of funerary monument (<emph>bomos</emph> with relief depictions of domestic objects), which is characteristic of <placeName type="ancientFindspot" key="Akmoneia">Akmoneia</placeName>, see <ref type="monument" n="MAMA-XI-121">MAMA XI 121</ref> (1955/101). This monument was seen and photographed by Fıratlı at <placeName type="ancientFindspot" key="Erice">Eski Erice</placeName> in 1970; it was later copied in the Uşak museum by Gibson, who (unaware of Fıratlı’s publication) attributed it to <placeName type="ancientFindspot" key="Akmoneia">Akmoneia</placeName> on the grounds of its decorative style. <bibl n="Sheppard1980">Sheppard 1980</bibl>: 315 records (not quite accurately) that Ballance recorded its provenance as <placeName type="modernFindspot" key="Pıyanlı">Pıyanlı</placeName>; Tabbernee states incorrectly that Ballance found the stone at <placeName type="modernFindspot" key="Payamalanı">Payamalanı</placeName>. </p>
<p>The name Παιθος also appears at Sebaste in <ref type="monument" n="MAMA-XI-080">MAMA XI 80</ref> (1956/36), and seems otherwise only to be attested at Pessinous in Galatia (<bibl type="abbr" n="IPessinous">I.Pessinous</bibl> 110). The name is understood to be indigenous by <bibl n="Zgusta1964">Zgusta 1964</bibl>: 403 §1191, and by <bibl n="Strubbe1978-9">Strubbe 1978/9</bibl>: 143. It may, however, simply be the Latin name <emph>Paetus</emph> with an incorrect aspiration (<bibl n="Strubbe1978-9">Strubbe 1978/9</bibl>: 134-5; cf. <bibl n="Brixhe1987">Brixhe 1987</bibl>: 110-13); the name Paetus is also attested at <placeName type="ancientFindspot" key="Sebaste">Sebaste</placeName> (<ref type="monument" n="MAMA-XI-066">MAMA XI 66</ref> [1956/34]).</p>
