The Calder-Ballance archive forms a fascinating chapter in the history of archaeological research in Asia Minor. The expeditions of the 1950s were the last of their kind: they marked the point at which the old practice of unsystematic recording of monuments from a wide area by a lone scholar, travelling by donkey or on foot, was finally replaced by more modern techniques of field-survey and excavation; the rôle of the traveller in discovering and recording isolated monuments has now been almost entirely taken over by local Turkish museums. In spring 2009, the Ioannou Classics Centre hosted an exhibition of photographs and ephemera from the MAMA expeditions to Asia Minor.
