Funerary stele for Zoe

Location:
Kulu (Kinna): in a cemetery on the east edge of the village.
Description:
Pink trachyte pedimental stele with corner acroteria and circular boss in pediment; on the shaft, plain pilasters to left and right. Broken above, buried below; back rough.
Dimensions:
Ht. 0.83+; W. 0.55 (pediment and acroteria), 0.51 (shaft); Th. 0.18; letters 0.030-0.045.

Loukios Manias (?) set this up for his wife Zoe, [in memoriam].

The reading in line 2 appears certain. A male name *Μανιας is apparently unattested elsewhere; it is possible that the single unpublished example cited by Zgusta 1964: 294 §865-5, allegedly from Isauria (‘IS: Λούκιος Μανιας Ineditum – Wiener Scheden’), is in fact identical to the text published here. It is, however, hard to see what else the sequence of letters could represent; the woman’s name Μανια is very common in this region, but a metronym (‘son of Mania’) seems unlikely.
