MAMA XI 93 (Traianopolis)
Funerary doorstone of Asklas and family

- Funerary doorstone.
- Location:
- Çarık Köyü (Traianopolis): in front of the mosque.
- Description:
- Upper part of grey marble quadruple doorstone (Waelkens 1986: 144-5, Typ G Uşak 1), broken below. In the spandrels of the archivolts: (1) palmette acroterium; (2) vine or ivy plant growing from cauliculus, with flowers at the ends of the lateral branches; (3) chalice; (4) vine or ivy plant growing from cauliculus, with small Maltese cross at the end of the left branch; (5) hidden by modern mortar. In the tympana: (1) and (2) comb, mirror and perfume bottle; (3) vine-pruner; (4) wheel with six spokes, or perhaps constantinianum. Inscription on the upper lintel. The lower part of the doorstone (Ht. 0.59+) lay nearby, thickly encrusted with modern mortar.
